A vent can be perfectly clean and still be a problem. Crushed hose behind the dryer, joints that have pulled apart in the wall or crawlspace, and old plastic or vinyl duct all restrict airflow or create a fire hazard.

• Replace crushed or kinked transition hose

• Seal leaking joints with foil tape (never screws that catch lint)
